From an early age, James always wanted to be a lawyer. Born on Long Island, New York, he had a knack for oration. “Born with the gift of gab”, as his family members would say,
James never missed an opportunity to speak up for the less fortunate.
Pursuing his chosen career, James attended SUNY Stony Brook and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 2009. After quickly discovering that the flexible morality of local politics was not a good fit, James redoubled his efforts to study the law.
Moving to Michigan in early 2011, James made his home in Grand Rapids and began attending the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, from which he graduated in 2013. After interning at the law firm of Tanis Schultz, when he passed the Bar in 2014 James was offered the opportunity to be the firm’s first associate.
James’ abilities as a litigator did not go unnoticed, and he was quickly made the first junior partner, then partner. For seven years James worked to improve his abilities as a litigator, taking whatever case he could try in the courtroom.
Not wanting to practice law from a cubicle, James became what he would later describe as: “a standup lawyer” and a “courtroom guy”. He was quickly voted the best lawyer in Grand Rapids. Twice.
Wanting more control over case management and trial strategy, James left Tanis Schultz in 2020 to start his own firm. James’ trial experience and his ability to fight for his clients are second to none. He currently practices in the areas of Criminal Defense and Family Law and continues to garner acquittals at trial.
